Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU established in 1979. Eastern Mediterranean University, EMU first started to work by providing education with Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering offering 3-year programs to 105 students with the aim of educating an intermediate workforce between an engineer and a technician and issuing a ‘technician-engineer’ diploma to successful students.

In 1984, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments are extended to four-year programs.

In 1985, Governments of Turkish Republic (TR) and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) mutually agree on opening a university called ‘EMU’. Members of the T.R. Council of Higher Education visit the Institute of Higher Technology with the aim of transforming it into a university.

In 1986, Following the TRNC Assembly’s approval of the Statute establishing the North Cyprus Education Foundation and EMU (18/86), the Institute of Higher Technology is converted into a state University assuming the name of EMU.

In 1986, Faculties of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics and School of Computing and Technology are inaugurated.

In 1990, Faculty of Architecture and School of Tourism and Hospitality Management are established.

In 1996, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Law starts offering education.

In 1997, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Communication is inaugurated.

In 1999, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Education is established.

In 2005, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, obtains full membership of European University Association (EUA) and International University Association (IUA).

In 2007, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, School of Business and Finance (School of Applied Disciplines) starts offering education.

In 2010, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Health Sciences and School of Justice are inaugurated.

In 2011, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Pharmacy is established.

In 2012, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Services and Faculty of Tourism start offering education.

Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU is a full member of the International Association of Universities, the European University Association, Community of Mediterranean Universities and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. Giving special importance to international recognition, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU has received the accreditation of various prominent international accrediting bodies. EMU is only one of five universities in the region to have been awarded the prestigious ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) in the field of engineering.

Similarly, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU, Architecture Faculty holds the MİAK accreditation. Business and Economics Faculty, Tourism Faculty and School of Computing and Technology have been granted the accreditation of FIBAA. Education Faculty English Language Teaching (ELT) Department was accredited by AQAS. Additionally, EMU School of Tourism and Hospitality Management gained the accreditation of TEDQUAL and the Computer Technologies and Information Systems offered by School of Computing and Technology (SCT) successfully passed ASIIN accreditation process. EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School has successfully obtained EDEXCEL accreditation. Last but not least, our University’s Business and Economics Faculty is a full member of EFMD and AACSB along with only three universities in Turkey.

United Kingdom based higher education ranking board Times Higher Education (THE) has announced its 2017-2018 Academic Year World University Rankings. On the list that features 1100 universities from 79 different countries the Eastern Mediterranean University, EMU is the only university from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). With this achievement, Eastern Mediterranean university, EMU furthers its success from the 2016-2017 Academic Year World University Rankings.
