Near East University (NEU) is a private university located in Northern Cyprus. It was founded in Northern Nicosia in 1988 by Suat Gunsel. The Middle East University currently has 16 faculties with 98 departments, and with 4 vocational schools, 2 secondary schools and 4 graduate schools. With over 25,000 students, it is the largest university in Northern Cyprus.

Middle East University was accredited by the Pharmaceutical Education Accreditation Council (ACPE) in 2014.

The university has a supercomputer, which ranks 13th in the world and the first in the region in terms of computing speed and productivity. It is used to assist Turkish universities in research and is involved in the Help Conquer Cancer project, as well as in the Large Hadron Collider experiment at CERN. In 2014, he also joined research on ways to treat the Ebola virus.

The NEU-IBM Research Center, whose supercomputer is part of the mission to create a North Cyprus research area within the European research area, conducts research in various fields, including chemistry, physics, astronomy, architecture, engineering and mathematics.

In 2014, a research team from NEU University produced the country’s first RA 25 car. The car was fully equipped with solar energy and took part in the 8th place in the South African Solar Challenge. A more advanced car model, RA 26, is being developed.
